History

Hygeia commenced operations in 1986 as Lagoon Hospital Apapa, a multi-specialist tertiary hospital facility in Lagos. Since then, the company has evolved into a healthcare services group including management of hospitals, worksite clinics and a Health Maintenance Organisation (HMO).

Hygeia HMO is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hygeia Nigeria Limited. The Hygeia Community Health Plan is a donor funded initiative that aims to improve access to quality healthcare to low income groups in Nigeria. The Company is also currently involved in the management of hospitals and worksite clinics, through the holding and operating company Hygeia Nigeria Limited. Through the Hygeia Nigeria Limited Foundation, the company also now builds capacity for the medical personnel in and beyond its provider network.
