Community Health outreaches

To complement the provision of much needed access to health care services, the HCHC also carries out health awareness campaigns about conditions of public health significance. These campaigns are structured to provide information about specific health conditions and also influence appropriate behavior changes at the community level. The community members are encouraged to take personal responsibilities for their own well being.

Since commencement of the community health insurance schemes, the HCHC in conjunction with the benefitting communities has carried out health awareness campaigns focused on HIV and AIDS, Malaria and Chicken Pox. Insecticide treated nets (ITNs) are handed out to children and nursing mothers at some of these outreaches. The campaigns have the feel of a community meeting. The community members are given the chance to speak out about the scheme and the theme of the health awareness campaign.

The HCHC conducts regular health checks within the selected communities to raise awareness on healthy lifestyles, assist in early detection of chronic illnesses and use the opportunity to receive feedback from the enrollees.
