Health Insurance Fund

This is a Dutch foundation that provides subsidised private insurance to low-income groups in Sub-Saharan Africa. The fund partners with local healthcare financing insurers such as the HCHP to provide access to needed basic healthcare services, including treatment for HIV and AIDS.  Through its innovative approach the fund strives to contribute to the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals one and six – reducing poverty and halting the spread of HIV and AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis and other major diseases in Africa. Funding from the HIF is also used to upgrade infrastructure and equipment available at the participating provider facilities. Training activities are also provided to develop the capacity of the personnel available in these facilities to provide optimal healthcare services.
