LAGOON HOSPITALS HINGES HEALTHCARE DELIVERY ON GOOD FACILITIES

Written by: Punch

The Group Medical Director Lagoon Hopsitals, Dr O. Onakoya, has emphasised the importance of good medical facilities in healthcare delivery in the country. In a statement on Monday, Onakoya who spoke at the unveiling of some medical equipment at the new wing of the hospital on Friday, said providing services along the entire spectrum of care and in particular at the tertiary level required a continuous process of improvements, training and upgrades.

He said, " In the last 23 years, this strive for quality has seen us not only improve various aspects of our delivery to super-specialty level, but also continue to benchmark those services against the best global standards. In the same time frame, we have also assembled a team of highly trained healthcare professionals which include arguably the largest number of specialist consultants working full time in any private hospital in Nigeria."

He recalled that the hospital has initially opened the Critical Care Unit as well as Computerised Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging Suites in a ceremony that was performed by former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Speaking further on the new wing, he said it housed the new intensive care unit and high dependency unit. According to him, "The ICU is a six-bed unit complete with specially trained workers and life support equipment. It is designed to look after patients with severe illnesses, organ failures of various types and other conditions that constitute a threat to life. Some of the medical problems would hitherto have required being flown abroad for treatment.

"Our ICT scanner has also now been upgraded to a six slice spiral machine which is able to do three-dimensional reconstructions unlike other machines."
