WE CAN MANAGE OUR HEALTH CARE CHALLENGES, HYGEIA BOSS ASSERTS

We can manage our health care challenges, Hygeia boss asserts The nation’s healthcare challenges can be well managed with the assistance of healthcare practitioners and participation of Nigerians. Managing Director, Hygeia HMO, a health management organisation, Mr. Kola Awokoya, who disclosed this during the 2009 Hygeia wellness summit in Lagos said cost should not be an issue with managing care.
Awokoya noted that several managed care principle such as those stressing continuity of care, health, prevention and promotion and early intervention are globally applauded by healthcare practitioners and patients alike.
He had earlier said the poor state of health in the country is caused primarily by lack of knowledge and lack of access. He said that the organisation, with its products, is trying to help address the lack of access issue while the summit and other initiatives help to address the lack of knowledge issue.
Awokoya said that the health plan, run under the managed care principle, has continued to wow because it is a response to sky-rocketing healthcare costs which have negatively impacted the finances of companies and families.
Mr Sunny Eresanya, Managing Director of 3-Dimensional Lifestyle, tasked Nigerians to maintain a healthy nutritional diet. He said maintaining a healthy lifestyle, nutritional choices and practices is very important in the quest for good health and increased performance capacity.
On HIV/AIDS, Ms. Morolake Odentoyinbo, Project Director, PATA Nigeria, enjoined Nigeria to learn how to care and support persons living with HIV so as to enhance their survival. The summit deliberates on the need for Nigerians to develop healthy approaches to healthcare as a means of longevity, and was Hygeia’s way of extending its responsibilities beyond providing cover and ensuring high quality healthcare to its clients, while sharing information that could lead to more active lifestyles and promoting well-being.
